On Sunday 6th April, Karen Smith and her father, Julian will be running the Brighton Marathon for PLANETS.

Karen and her Dad decided that they wanted to run the marathon for a charity that had a personal meaning for them. They chose PLANETS because they have been a beacon of support for Karen’s best friend during her Dad’s fight against cancer who says: “It is difficult to put into words what SGH has done for our family. Without the staff, research and treatments they have provided my Dad might not be here today. They are providing top methods to detect and diagnose tumours and utilise the skills of incredible surgeons to prolong life. PLANETS is pushing to bring pioneering drugs and treatments to the south coast to provide patients with the best chances. As well as this, SGH has also provided us with a genetics service so that we now understand where the disease has come from, and can try to prevent it having such a massive impact in the future. They are basically helping to keep families affected by these tumours together as long as possible for which we will forever be grateful.”  Karen added ‘we are very pleased to be raising money for such an important charity that really has supported my best friend over recent years. If you would like to sponsor, please visit our page – every little penny is important.’

Karen is writing a blog about her training, if you would like to find out how she is getting on, please click here!
Thank you to both Karen and Julian for taking on the ultimate running challenge for PLANETS.  26.2 miles is a long way and the training is a big commitment so we are very grateful that they have chosen to raise money for us and pleased that the charity has been able to help their friend and her family.  Good luck, we will be thinking of you on the day!
